Kimberley’s Apple Crumble is a hit at any dinner party. Its simplicity means anyone can give it a go and have a beautifully sweet treat, boosted by the glorious smell of warm apple and cinnamon around the house.

Ingredients

For the Crumble

  • 250G Plain Flour
  • 150G Unrefined Brown Sugar
  • 180G unsalted butter (or Olive Oil as substitute)

For the Filling

  • 550G Apples ( 4 granary cooking ones, peeled and cut into little pieces)
  • 50G Brown Unrefined Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Flour
  • 1 Tsp Cinnamon

Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

1, Place the flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix well with a wooden spoon. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the mixture (leaving a bit of butter behind to grease the baking tin). Using your hands, keep rubbing until it looks like breadcrumbs.

2, Once that is done, leave to one side and get the other ingredients. Place the fruit in a large bowl and sprinkle over with the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Stir well being careful not to make the fruit mushy or break it.

3, Rub the remaining butter along the sides of your cake tin, pour in the filling mixture and cover with the crumble.

4, Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes until the crumble is golden and the fruit mixture caramelises.
