The Christmas lights are on, the air is cool and crisp and I’m pretty sure i’ve heard those annual Christmas songs playing in the background.
I love this time of year, it’s time to cuddle up to loved ones, put on the fire and enjoy the smell of roasted chestnuts by the fire with a good movie. If, like me, you’re not lucky enough to have a fire place you can always prepare these season favourite in the oven, although slightly different, the results are just as enjoyable.
Ingredients
- 1 bowl chestnuts
- Thick salt
Method
There are many different ways of preparing these, but here’s one I recently tried.
1, Preheat the oven to 220C and prepare your chestnuts by slicing a cross along the top.
2, Place these on a tray, on a bed of thick salt and stick in the oven for about 40 minutes.
3, Check them at around 30 minutes, just to make sure they are not burning. When finished, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool a bit before touching them as they will be VERY hot.
4, Transfer them to a bowl and season with some of the thick salt.
