Serrano Wrapped Asparagus

SOMETHING ELSE?

So the festivities are over but you still have so much ham lying around you really don’t know what to do with it right? Since it’s the season to detox, and healthy new starts we thought we would grab one of those important ingredients and give them a twist (pun intended).

Asparagus are so full of nutrients i’m not quite sure why we don’t eat them more regularly.

  1. A source of fiber, folate, vitamins A, C, E and K.
  2. A cancer fighter, something we can’t have to much of in this day and age.  rich source of glutathione, a detoxifying compound that helps break down carcinogens and other harmful compounds like free radicals.
  3. Jam-packed full of antioxidants
  4. It’s a brain booster
  5. Finally, it’ll have you running to the loo to release that excess salt in the body and reduce high blood pressure.

This recipe is ideal for brunches, gatherings or even a snack between meals as it’s so simple to make and really quite filling. The main aim is to get that ham nice and crisp whilst having the asparagus and juicy and tender underneath.

Ingredients

  • 8 Asparagus
  • 8 Slices Serrano ham
  • Olive Oil
  • Black Pepper

Method

1, Prepare each of your asparagus individually, diagonally wrapping the ham around it from end to end, leaving only the head uncovered.

2, Place a skillet over a medium- high heat and allow it to heat up thoroughly. Now, place your asparagus on the skillet, 4 at a time and drizzle with olive oil.

3, Cook until the ham is crisp and the asparagus is tender then crack some black pepper over and season. This should take 3 – 5 minutes. Repeat until all your wrapped asparagus are ready, then serve.

Beautifully flavoured and delightfully tender asparagus wrapped in oily serrano ham slices. Giving a mix of earthy and saltiness.

Does it matter if the asparagus is white or green ? I can only seem to find recipes for the green kind with very little to no mention of white asparagus.
